J&J’s DePuy Synthes has acquired Cuptimize hip-spine analysis, a tool to understand and address abnormal spine-pelvis motion is some patients needing total hip replacement. Cuptimize analysis enhances VELYS hip navigation’s surgical planning capabilities.

A hip-spine analysis that lets the surgeon quantify pelvic tilt changes can provide ideal cup positioning, which may help reduce dislocation risk due to pelvic tilt.

Cuptimize analysis doesn’t need advanced imaging or engineering staff—a digital screening tool analyzes patient x-rays when standing or sitting to identify abnormal motion between the spine and pelvis. Combined with VELYS hip navigation’s intra-op capabilities, surgeons can deliver more personalized care.

“The CUPTIMIZE Analysis is easy to use and allows me to make pre-operative decisions regarding a patient’s unique spinopelvic characteristics in a simple way before surgery,” NYC orthopedic surgeon Dr. Jonathan Vigdorchik told the press. “It is an efficient tool to execute my plan during the operation.”

VELYS hip navigation integrates pre-op planning and intra-op execution, providing real-time, actionable data to personalize hip replacement, boost reproducibility, and optimize outcomes.

“At DePuy Synthes, we’re focused on addressing unmet needs with advanced technologies to deliver the most personalized care, like VELYS Hip Navigation with the CUPTIMIZE Analysis, with the goal of better outcomes for joint replacement surgery patients,” said Sharrolyn Josse, worldwide president, VELYS Digital Surgery & Capital “This acquisition is one more advancement on our journey to becoming the most personalized and connected orthopaedics company.”
