Catalyst OrthoScience has named Amy Ables, Ph.D. as its new chief commercial officer (CCO), effective immediately.

Dr. Ables joined the Naples, Fla.-based shoulder arthroplasty technology company in 2023 as chief strategy officer. In that role, she led development of Catalyst Ortho’s ACE sales training and medical education programs.

Dr. Ables previously served in sales, marketing, and sales training roles at Tornier and Wright Medical (now owned by Stryker). Before joining Catalyst, she was VP of customer engagement and sales training at medical aesthetics company Cutera. Prior to Cutera—amid the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic—Dr. Ables was chief learning officer of respiratory care company Vyaire Medical.

Catalyst Ortho lauded Dr. Ables, saying she played a crucial role in developing and executing its strategic roadmap.

“Amy is a driven and experienced leader with a track record of effectively building and scaling medical device businesses, including organizations solely focused on shoulder arthroplasty. She has a unique ability to connect with people at all levels to achieve success. We are excited to have her take on this role and accelerate our competitive position in the market,” said Carl O’Connell, CEO of Catalyst.

“I am eager to take on this new role and grateful for the opportunity to work alongside such a talented team at Catalyst,” said Dr. Ables. “Now is the time for aggressive execution of our commercial initiatives to elevate the customer experience, strengthen our market position, and continue explosive growth. In addition to our disruptive technologies, we are transforming traditional perspectives to unlock new opportunities and create lasting value for our customers, employees, and stakeholders.”

Last week, Catalyst announced it had earned U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance for its Catalyst fracture shoulder system, a reverse for fracture arthroplasty system to treat proximal humeral fractures.
