Not surprisingly, M&A took top billing on ODT’s website this past week.

Driving the bulk of online pageviews was Zimmer Biomet’s acquisition of OSSIS, a privately-held company specializing in personalized 3D implants and complex hip replacements, including second-time hip replacements and those involving bone tumors and trauma. OSSIS offers rapid personalized implant design and production that align with Zimmer Biomet’s push to provide personalized experiences. Zimmer Biomet began an agreement with OSSIS in July 2021 to become the company’s Asia-Pacific partner for patient-specific, 3D-printed titanium hip joint replacements and other pelvic bone replacement surgery. The partnership was expanded to Europe, Middle East, and Africa in December 2022. This acquisition marks the continuation of the partnership and will let Zimmer Biomet boost OSSIS’ hip reconstruction portfolio.

Enovis attracted virtual visitors with its deal to acquire the SEAL external fixation product line from D.N.E. LLC. No details were provided about the transaction, other than its expected closing toward the end of Q2 2023.

Other pageview growth came from Bone Health Technologies and DirectSync Surgical. The former named a new chief medical officer and two board members while the latter achieved Breakthrough Device Designation from the FDA for its patient-powered, smart spinal fusion device. According to the FDA, the DirectSync Surgical interbody device may provide a more effective treatment of an irreversibly debilitating condition than the current standard of care. It delivers localized electrical stimulation and offers post-op diagnostics to achieve fusion more effectively for patients indicated for spinal fusion.
