Boca Raton, Fla.-based U.S. Spine has announced that it has been awarded its second patent in a series of patents for facet fixation, providing protection to the company for its method of facet fixation using the Facet Gun and Facet Bolt. Additional patents covering other devices and methods are expected to follow, company officials said.
During the annual meeting, the company featured its new Facet Gun MAX, the newest generation of its patented Facet Fixation System, as well as its new Javelin MIS Locking Facet Fixation System.
According to the company, the Facet Gun MAX consists of a reusable hand piece with quick-release, disposable implant cartridges and enables spine surgeons to lock the facet joint in two simple steps via a gun-shaped “all-in-one” delivery system. U.S. Spine claims its Facet Bolt is the first and only available locking facet implant, providing the stiffness and strength equivalent to conventional stabilization and fusion devices, but is simpler, faster and less invasive to use.
The company’s Javelin technology is designed to stabilize the lumbar spine by locking the facet joints through a minimally invasive incision. This enables surgeons to fixate the facet joints without needing to perform an open procedure that usually requires larger, more invasive implants, such as pedicle screws and rods.
In addition to its Facet Fixation platform, the company also featured its new Phantom Plus Interbody Fusion and Preference 2 Complex Spine Systems.
U.S. Spine is a privately held, commercial-stage medical device company focused on the development and commercialization of advanced spinal implant systems with breakthrough technology to address the spine implant market.
