Jupiter, Fla.-based Captiva Spine Inc., a spine device company, has earned 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for its enhanced Towerlox MIS (minimally invasive surgery) pedicle screw system.
The upgrades to the Towerlox system include the Pivoquik rod inserter, which is patent pending, and facilitates rod placement; the modular open tower, also patent pending, which offers proprietary locking mechanisms designed to prevent inadvertent tower detachment and allows for rod insertion and visualization through the central shaft of the tower; the reduction set screwdriver designed for rod reduction through the tower without wound expansion while simultaneously driving the set screw thus reducing unnecessary steps; and the Pivorod LP (low profile), meant to provide efficient rod angle adjustment and smooth detachment for the inserter.
Captiva Spine continues to add new capabilities to the Towerlox MIS pedicle screw system.
“We’ve obsessively invested time collaborating with leading MIS spine surgeons, discovered new resources through our vendor partners, and delivered coordinated enthusiasm through all aspects of this project,” said Dale Mitchell, president and founder of Captiva Spine said. “During our collaborations with numerous spine surgeons it became very clear that aside from creating a thoughtful and elegant MIS pedicle screw system, it was very important that these enhancements allowed the surgeon to approach challenging surgical situations with confidence.”
