The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons’ (AAOS) has chosen New Hampshire orthopedic surgeon David S. Jevsevar, M.D., MBA, FAAOS, to chair its Research and Quality Council.
The Research and Quality Council advances the application of scientific knowledge to improve the safety and effectiveness of musculoskeletal care. It educates AAOS Fellowship, public and public policymakers regarding clinical practice, regulatory affairs, standards, biologics, patient safety, occupational health, and other related areas of importance in orthopedic care.
Combining medical and business acumen, Jevsevar has worked to raise the standards in value-based orthopedic medicine for most of his career. This has included assessing evidence-based care, program and care pathway development, quality, and performance improvement, and clinical- and patient-reported outcomes.
Jevsevar recently became CEO of OrthoVirginia. Previously, he chaired the Department of Orthopaedics at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center for seven years and associate professor of orthopedics at the Geisel School of Medicine. He is also a member of the Orthopaedic Consultant Committee for Leapfrog Group and past member of committees on inpatient outcomes and orthopedic institutional rankings for the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
Within AAOS, Jevsevar most recently chaired the Committee on Devices, Biologics, and Technology, the Knee Osteoarthritis Clinical Practice Guidelines Work Group, and was a member of the Registry Oversight Committee and Bylaws Committee. In addition, he previously chaired the Committee on Evidence-Based Quality and Value.
Integrating academic and clinical aspects of quality and safety, Jevsevar has published hundreds of peer-reviewed articles and presented throughout the nation to help medical professionals raise the bar in orthopedic care.
Jevsevar earned his medical degree from Georgetown University, Master of Business Administration from Auburn University, and bachelor of science degree in biology from Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pa.
With more than 39,000 members, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons is the world’s largest medical association of musculoskeletal specialists. It provides education to help orthopedic surgeons and allied health professionals best treat patients in their daily practices. The AAOS is the source for information on bone and joint conditions, treatments, and related musculoskeletal health care issues and it leads the healthcare discussion on advancing quality.
