Upper and lower extremity implant and instrument maker Extremity Medical has released its new OMNI stable ankle fracture (SAF) system.
It’s estimated that last year over 152,000 ankle fractures needing internal fixation occurred—a rate expected to continue given a larger number of people in athletics and more older adults prone to ankle and other lower extremity injuries.
Extremity Medical has focused on developing a state-of-the-art ankle fracture system that offers surgeons an anatomic implant solution for every fracture location,” Matthew Lyons, Extremity Medical CEO, founder, and chairman told the press. “Additionally, our team designed fixation options to enhance construct stability for patients with poor bone quality or segmental bone loss.”
OMNI stable AF’s variety of low-profile anatomic plates closely match patient anatomy and reduce impingement of soft tissue. The firm’s proprietary Stability Post optimizes stability for patients with poor bone quality and/or segmental loss of bone.
The system gives surgeons a selection of bone reduction instruments to accommodate difficult cases as needed. The system was designed in tandem with an accomplished team of surgeons with extensive experience in ankle fracture treatment.
