With a new season around the corner, new products took center stage this past week on ODT's website.
Stryker led total pageviews with the FDA clearance of its Pangea systems, which include applications for Femur, Fibula, Tibia, Humerus and Utility. The Pangea plates have an evidence-based design for implant fit and are engineered to enhance plate fit and screw placement as well as bolster the plating market with anatomically contoured implants in patients with various fracture patterns.
Trailing Stryker's regulatory news but topping other new product announcements was the Orthofix Board's decision to fire CEO Keith Valentine, CFO John Bostjancic, and Chief Legal Officer Patrick Keran for engaging "in repeated inappropriate and offensive conduct that violated multiple code of conduct requirements and was inconsistent with the company’s values and culture.” The trio was terminated following an independent, outside investigation; the board has begun searching for the executives' permanent replacements.
Other product news gaining significant site traffic was NuVasive Specialized Orthopedics' launch of its Precice Bone Transport system and Treace Medical Concepts' U.S. release of three new bunion technologies.
Also garnering cybervisitors' interest was Paragon 28's FDA investigational device exemption approval to begin a feasibility study for configurations of the SMART Total Talus system in conjunction with the APEX 3D total ankle replacement system. The study is expected to begin early next year.
