Exactech has received two patents (#11,044,365 and #11,950,820) from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, protecting the company’s intellectual property around its novel Newton soft tissue balancing technology for total knee replacement surgery.
The two patents build on a previously received patent, broadening the scope of the position and orientation of the mechanical actuators in the Newton soft tissue balancing device. These patents also encompass a broader range of functions including singular distraction elements that can maintain constant force through a wide range of motion, allowing for increased capability and protection for the future evolution of Exactech's Newton portfolio.
The Newton Knee is powered by Exactech’s Active Intelligence and works with ExactechGPS, providing orthopaedic surgeons with dynamic soft tissue analytics, pre-resection operative insights, and full-range personalized planning designed to simplify, evaluate, and execute balanced total knee replacement surgery.
"Exactech is committed to leading the industry with innovative soft tissue management technologies that address the growing need for improved patient satisfaction and outcomes in knee replacement," said Laurent Angibaud, VP of Advanced Surgical Technologies Development at Exactech. "These newly awarded patents add to Exactech's strong IP portfolio of more than 45 global patents that are dedicated to soft-tissue management, protecting our innovations that offer patients the balanced outcomes they deserve."
